The Senior Center of Electra provides three major services for elderly and disabled persons:
1. Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels)
2. Congregate Meals
Home Delivered Meals are provided under two separate programs: Title XX , administered by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (TXDADS) and Title C2, administered by the Area Agency on Aging (AAA). TXDADS screens applicants and determines eligibility for disabled clients of all ages. There are a limited number of spaces, so many applicants have to be added to a waiting list until a space becomes available. The Senior Center of Electra determines the eligibility of applicants for Title C2 home delivered meals. The first requirement is that the applicant must be at least 60 years old. This program is especially planned for those who need home delivered meals for a short time to recover after dismissal from a hospital or rehabilitation center. A few spaces are available for long term clients.
Congregate Meals are meals served at the Senior Center each Monday through Friday at 12 o’clock Noon. This program is administered by the AAA and is for persons at least 60 years old.
The Senior Center suggests a monetary donation of $3.00 per meal. Guests under the age of 60 are requested to pay $6.00 per meal. Clients are encouraged to come early and stay late to visit, play games or watch television.
Transportation is the third service offered to citizens of Electra 60 and older. The Senior Center will provide transportation to and from doctors’ offices, hospital lab, pharmacy, grocery store, barber and beauty shops, post office, Senior Center or anywhere else in town. Trips to doctors and dentists in Wichita Falls may also be scheduled. The suggested donation for a trip in Electra is $2.00; the suggested donation for a trip to Wichita Falls is $20.00.
We also offer a place for seniors and organizations to meet for recreation and special projects. We play games every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. A group of ladies meets for coffee on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes the NANs meet here for a sewing project. We offer television and air conditioning for anyone who wants to drop in between 9 and 5.
