On February 4, 1908 the original deed for what is known as the “Old Electra Cemetery” was sold to the City by F.D. Woodruff for the sum of $50. In 1921, an additional 3 acres were purchased as an addition to the original cemetery. The oldest grave markers found in the area were from 1901, actually prior to the creation of the formal cemetery.
Several additions to the Cemetery were added throughout the years. The “New Electra Cemetery” in 1926 , the “Electra Memorial Cemetery” in 1952, and the “Dick Sparks” cemetery unknown date. Of historical interest, the cemeteries contain the marked graves of nine Confederate veterans and three Union Army veterans from the Civil War.
The City of Electra and the Electra Cemetery Board are currently working on obtaining official Historical recognition for the Electra Cemeteries.
