The City of Electra Public Safety group includes separate organizations for the Police Department and the Electra Volunteer Fire Department, a part-time Animal Control Officer, and a part-time employee who is the City's Fire Marshall, Code Enforcement Official and Building Inspector. In addition, the City operates their Municipal Court with a full-time Associate Judge, a part-time visiting Judge, and a City Prosecutor (City Attorney) to handle local ordinance violations. The Fire Department is an all-volunteer force that is one of the most respected organizations in the Region. The Police Department, Animal Control and Code Enforcement/Building Official are paid positions.

The Electra Police Department provides professional staff to keep citizens safe 24/7, 365 days a year, resulting in one of the lowest crime rates in the region. A Communication Supervisor and four full-time dispatchers handle emergency calls for the Police, Fire and Ambulance services in this area. In addition to public safety responsibilities, the Department's dispatchers provide access to City services after regular business hours.

The Electra Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1913, and has continued to provide quality fire protection throughout the years. The department averages over 25 volunteer firemen that attend training sessions each month. In addition to their duties here in town, they handle grass and structure fires in the surrounding area for Wichita County. Their funding comes from the City of Electra, Wichita County, local fundraising and available grants from the US Forest Service and some local foundations.

The City of Electra employs one part-time Animal Control Officer who is responsible for enforcing the City's animal control ordinances. This includes stray and loose animals, licensing, rabies tags and coordinating an annual rabies clinic. In addition, the City works with both the Wilbarger and Wichita Humane Society to find homes for unclaimed animals.

The City employs one part-time employee who handles basic Code Enforcement and Building Inspection duties for the City. This position is responsible for providing advice and guidance, as well as enforcement duties for issues related to potential and actual violations of City Ordinances and International Code Compliance Issues. The City Commission of the City of Electra has in recent years put a very high priority on cleaning up the City and improving the compliance to existing ordinances. The City of Electra has adopted the International Codes as developed by the International Code Compliance Council.

Building Inspection

The Building Inspector for the City of Electra is responsible for reviewing planned construction and remodel work within the City. All construction and remodeling plans must be approved by the Building Inspector and a Building Permit issued, prior to construction beginning. The Building Inspector can be reached at 940-631-1129 or through City Hall at 940-495-2146. The Building Inspector is often available after hours and on weekends for the convenience of the community. The City of Electra follows the International Buildings Codes. Copies of the specific codes are available for review at City Hall and online through the International Code Council.

The City employs one full-time Associate Judge who is also the Municipal Court Clerk. In addition, the City contracts with a visiting Judge who currently conducts Court and trials when necessary. The City Attorney acts as the City Prosecutor. The Municipal Court is responsible for handling alleged and actual violations of City Ordinances and traffic violations within the City limits of Electra.
