The Downtown Electra Historical District, created by City Ordinance 87-10 in 1987, is a 9-block district of commercial buildings at the center of the community. The ordinance seeks to maintain the historic character of the buildings within the district by enlisting property owners and citizens in the effort to preserve this piece of the past for Electra’s future.

Design Review
Design Review is the process for securing approval of exterior changes to property located within the District. The Design Review Commission is a 7-member citizen board appointed by city government to review changes for appropriateness prior to issuance of building permits within the District.
Property owners considering exterior changes to their property within the District may obtain an application for Design Review at City Hall, 101 N. Main, or the Main Street Program Office at 102 N. Waggoner. Assistance with the Design Review process from application to scheduling is available through the Main Street Office at 940.495.3758. Free design assistance from the Texas Main Street design staff and local incentives for approved exterior repairs are also available through the Main Street Office.
